Well, I tried. NaNoWriMo has beaten me. Well, to be fair, it is life that has beaten me, not the event itself. I did try though. I got 30,000 words into a novel I've wanted to write for years, as I guess in some senses I do win my own little event, in that I'm 30,000 words better off. The simple fact is, as a writer by trade, my output is in the region of 80,000 words a month anyway (Taking into account the print magazine, the websites, the blogs and all the other stuff as well as my personal material), and adding 50,000 on top of that was always going to be tough, if not impossible. I'll finish the book over the coming month, at a rate of 1,000-1,500 words a day. It'll then be edited and polished, and released in some form or another in early '09.
So then, yes, I failed at NaNoWriMo, but in the process I won myself a big chunk of material that I am very, very proud of. That counts for something, and during a period of life where I've been going through all kinds of stress, I'm very grateful.
Just thinking out loud. Move along.
