In a city where religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants is largely expressed at football/soccer matches in between
Rangers and Celtic, and through their fans/subjects (both in terms of clubs and religion) both on and off the terraces - on the wrong Effin' Land mass... today saw a
thirty year Ruling overturned that originally prevented Monty Python's life of Brian from being Screened publicly on grounds of blasphemy.
Since I'm someone who's VERY critical of religion ( as well as an Aberdeen fan =/ ) I never knew this was in place originally. Granted, I knew a fair bit about the film's controversial history thanks to
"the secret life of Brian" documentary. But I didn't realise that was still the case somewhere relatively local (yes, 120-150 miles to the nearest big cities - for me - counts as local) hell they've been selling the film on various formats in that City for nearly just as long, (mostly as pirated copies in the
Barras I'll bet :P ) Mind you given the sporting history there I shouldn't really be surprised. :P
Don't get me wrong there is
more than
one reason why I actually Like Glasgow as a city in itself. Anyways hopefully they all Delight in watching it with a mass screening in Hampden park concluding in a karaoke style mass singalong of "always look on the bright side of life" at the end of the film then, they'll all be bought together laughing in humorous unity. That is untill the football season starts again :P
