I visit San Francisco for the very first time recently. My family and I visited the
Exploritorium there and had a great time. It is a HUGE collection of science experiments, and they have the illusions in the back. Most of them I've seen before, and a couple of them are great to see in 3d (i.e. in person and not in a book).
But one of them was a great one. I have attempted to reproduce it here.
Using
THIS original photo, I used photoshop to make the illusion.

Here's how it works.
Look carefully at the two pictures. They most look alike, right? I have changed three things about the LEFT one - both eyes and the mouth have been flipped upside down (or in the photo right-side up ;-) ). Did you see that?
Ok, here is the trick. DOWNLOAD the image, and use a image editor (GIMP, Photoshop, Paint, etc) to ROTATE the WHOLE picture right-side up. Look at how distorted the edited picture becomes. Almost grotesque.
It can easily be reproduced - but work best when it's a photo of someone with a big smile and big eyes.
(still looking for a good one of Zadi... or Steve)
