five senses and their value...
Iv been thinking recently about my five senses, you all should know them:
*smell
*taste
*hearing
*touch
*seeing
When we pay for music, we are basically paying for sound. And before the 21st century, you couldn't do that. Buying sound... it sounded funny to me when i first thought about it. We also pay more for lotions and candles that smell nice, but does it really matter? We buy paintings to look at, but does it matter to a person who has gone blind, but rememberrs what it looks like? And pictures that are erotic are really just lines and color put together to form a picture.
I guess my point is everything we seem to do is to satisfy our five senses. And other than emotions and our health, is there anything we do that doesn't?

You really go "deep" now... I also like cooking, keeps all 5 senses busy :)
I think doing sports doesn't have goal to satisfy any of your senses. At least some sports. Yes you are using them (you use eyes, ears, touch etc) but the final goal is to entertain yourself - or to get really tired. Maybe I'm wrong...

Comment by Alex V. on July 11, 2008 at 9:26am - Actually, we have three more senses: balance, proprioception and the sense of time, but I'm just nitpicking now... Imagine you didn't have any of these 8 senses. Would you still be concious, alive? It would just be an endless nothing.

Our senses of perception are the interface we use to interact with the world, so it makes sense that most of we do is driven by desires that put our wants and needs in terms of how we can perceive things. Even internal motivations and interactions (dreaming in its various forms) are often simulations of sensory perception. It's the language we use to interact with the world, so, probably not.

What I was referring to, was that the way that this "could" move forward, was that people might be able to search for info about any random person through taking a photograph in the street, they don't even have to be famous.
