tubejay suddenly ogg vorbis and ogg video matter

ogg vorbis audio has been in use a long time, lots of open source media players support it, including most of the ones that play mp3's. for other players that simply rely on what codecs you have installed, it should be possible to install a vorbis codec. on top of this, it's actually possible to find ogg vorbis audio files to listen to. this is not so much the case with ogg video, or wasn't until the internet archive started converting both multimedia files to both vorbis audio and ogg theora vi… Continue

tubejay why americans should move from cable internet to its competitors

it's not the reason why, but for some reason i've never liked cable internet. for years i kept a sort of mental record of who was unhappy with cable and who was unhappy with dsl, and my impression for the years i did not have high-speed access myself was, cable would be more of a bother and dsl was better. this may vary slightly depending on your area, but the history of the internet and american regulatory laws help to explain why i prefer dsl- and why you should, too. the history of the net (… Continue

Dale need some feedback for my new online record store / record label

I haven't really spread the word about this one yet but I am starting up my own online record label / record store / way to release music called Binary Releases. I'm setting it up to be uber flexible as far as release methods and costing goes but I would really like some feedback from mix members. I'm building the site using Drupal 6 and Ubercart with paypal for all credit card transactions. so current plan is as follows. 256K mp3's are free to anyone who wants them with a donate function ava… Continue

Heizel a very practical lesson

hi! I guess I haven't blogged that much lately, but I wanted to share something very interesting that happened this week, and also the lesson I learned. A couple of weeks ago I just got a couple of good books about Zen, one of poems and stories and the other the story of the Zen masters... so I learned the first master they mention whose name is Bodhidharma, the thing I liked the most is the 4 principles to reach the illumin… Continue

tubejay how to fix the biggest problem with nc-nd @zadi @laurence

i don't like cc nd, because i like that you can remix most things that are cc. i will use nd works if there is in my opinion a good enough reason to include them, for example i think it's very important that an artist like allison crowe has embraced creative commons by licensing her work under one of the licenses, even if it is nd. it's important because it's still groundbreaking when a mainstream artist does that, and some works will be important enough to overlook the restrictions of nd- in th… Continue

Laurence Religious sanity (briefly) comes to Glasgow...

In a city where religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants is largely expressed at football/soccer matches in between Rangers and Celtic, and through their fans/subjects (both in terms of clubs and religion) both on and off the terraces - on the wrong Effin' Land mass... today saw a thirty year Ruling overtContinue

tubejay here's a very nasty argument you hear more every day

1. money alone determines worth. (don't believe it? sometimes more people will buy a product if you simply up the price.) 2. that which you own costs nothing. (it costs you nothing to buy it anyway. you may pay to maintain a car, but the moment it's "used," it's worth so much less. buy new!) 3. everything you own is worthless. ...nasty, nasty argument. granted people have a lot of worthless stuff. the problem is when the argument goes from "some stuff's worthless" to "everything is worthless.… Continue

Harrison New project

Tl;dr version: I'm going to draw myself everyday because I'm that vain trying to improve myself. So I'm an art major. And I'd like to be an artist/designer. And I suck at art. So I was all like: hey, what can I do to get better at art? How about I look in a mirror every day and draw myself? Ok, that'll work! So that's the new project. A self-portrait every day to stretch my wings. I'll take emphasize a different technique/skill/whatever with each one, so instead of working on all aspec… Continue
