I remember the old school Candyland used cards to move around the board. If you could somehow buy the (edible) cards separately in say, the candy aisle, you now have solved your sanitation issue.

Well, bacteria might be a problem. Though if bacteria were no problem-THEN YEAH! :)
I think it's because the people's lives are missing something in their lives and the movie tries to fill that hole for them. I saw Avatar and thought it was good, but it didn't make me feel like my whole life was never complete before it.
