As the title suggests, I can't find any official way for us Mixers to formally put forward artists and musicians to the Epicfu crew for inclusion. so I thought a thread discussion could be started for this purpose.
I'd like to start things off with a Crazy swedish trio Consisting of Marcass (aka satan behind the synthesizer ), Jonass, And Drumass, AKA "quit your dayjob" ( official site & myspace
most of their songs are short, sweet, aggressive, and catchy, and they don't put too much thought into their lyrics, ( "coconut" and "P!ssing on a panda" for example)
And they're videos, are quite cheap, but they will often give you a smile. :) Like their latest effort, "beat the boss".
I'll also give you "bodypoppers":
And "coconut"... (Warning, they used edited bullfight footage, not for the squeemish)
I also want to offer up a (now sadly defunct) British band called Straw, at the time of writing I'm going through my minidisc collection. Making a list on what to digitally aquire before "moving on" my players and collection for good. and I found one of their latter songs on there.
I was lucky to be at one of their last gigs when they performed in Aberdeen. just before they were due to release their second album "keepsakes". However it was at that same gig i attended That they were on the same bill as a local "rage against the machine" covers band. and more people at the gig were there to see them than straw. ( not taking anything away from the original rage , but Aberdeen is not known for it's citizens being clued up in any way about good original music.) It was almost immediately after this gig that they decided to call it a day, and thus the second album never got released. All this was around 1999 when British guitar bands where losing popularity quickly.
Highly critically acclaimed but hugely ignored in terms of sales. they called it quits shortly before the net took off. From their stuff I give you...
"watching you sleep" (from the never released second album)
then from their first album "shoplifting" comes "soundtrack of the summer" :
and "wierd superman":
And this is not any kind of official video but this is one of my faves from "shoplifting" ... "moving to california" :
The last remaning online location seems to be this site :(
Thought I'd continue the British theme you had going there. considering you had a good straight run these last few episodes (DJ format, Hadouken, and the black ghosts) :P Feel free to pass on your thoughts and suggest any other bands that you like to see featured
Sticking with the mid-late 90's brit guitar band theme... the award for best use of a rope in a music video goes to...
The bluetones with "if"
this song was released when I was still at school and this is one of my all time faves. This is always reserved as the Very last song they play at one of their setlists/encores at a gig, this is due to the life-and-soul affirmingly singalongable chorus of "na na" 's at the end, and yes, I have seen them live enough times to verify this.
This is another one of my favourites, a song about car buying and ownership, engeniously titled "autophilia - or how I learned to stop worrying and love my car" or just, "autophilia" for short
Edit, put the correct embed code for second video...
Been following Danish lot the raveonettes for a while now. Think of them as buddy holly esque 50's and 60's rcok meets the Jesus and mary chain's Droney feedback.
I first got into them because I have a thing for women that can play musical instruments, and te sight of Sharin Foo on guitar turns me into a salivating yellow bus passenger each time I see her on Bass or guitar :D
I'm really diggin' their latest effort: ally walk with me...
my fave from them has to be, "love in a trashcan"..
For my part, I'll suggest Fredo Viola. I've seen his music videos through his interactive website and it's pretty cool, his music has nothing to do with mainstream music.
I'm not normally into Rap or hip hop, but I couldn't ignore the following: first up, from Adelaide Australia, the hilltop hoods.
I first got wind of them after seeing this video, that song is called "the nosebleed section"
I was handed a Flyer for future concerts Whilst I was waiting for the ACDC concert venue to open in Paris. And it mentioned the following Group from Berlin, Germany,...
A bit of androgynous 80's electronica here From British outfit "La roux" (which is french for "the red headed one"). Fronted by Elly Jackson, who has, quite possibly, The best Hairstyle I've seen on a woman this decade (which must take at least a can of hairspray a day to maintain! :O ), not to mention one of the most distinguishable singing voices as well :)
Couple of ditties released so far over here are "quicksand"
Talk about sheer coincidence, They were the band i went to see in Edinburgh last night. They were Brilliant + funny, their bassist was WASTED though, he kept trying to balance himself on the front amps and barriers and usually falling... backwards into the crowd, he clocked me on the head with the little end of his guitar though. but still it was much enjoyed.
Well worthy of some merchandise aquisition :D
however the only downer of the night was a drunken woman stood on my foot as I was in "post powerslide air guitar pose" so I'm a bit sore around the foot and the ankle :(
ive had mine a while and i treat em like hell, they sound as good the day i got them, but are not as kinesteticly pleasing, ive scratched them pretty well
LOL @ earwax. I have never been a big fan of Pioneer headphones. The last Pioneer headphones i purchased were the SE-NC70S and in about three months the right side died out and the battery life was crap. What I do like about pioneer is the sound q...
Well I have the 2006 80 GB classic & the 32GB iPod touch both sound qualities are great but I must agree about the classic being better. I've been getting alot positive feedback about Sennheiser so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info!
lol dear Mr. Wolf, I've gone down this road before. I can't handle the uncertainty and mind boggle. Have you seen the movie "The Believer"? If so, remember the end? The dude keeps climbing the stairs, again and again, each time facing the same man...
