So I'm in the process of setting up an open blogging site... still, yes this is going to take some time. But this has had me wondering what people actually want in a social networking and blogging site? Is it more about the features available or is it about the people that are already there?
I think the focus has to be around how we use the internet more, at the moment it seems social networks rely on me finding people, entering details etc to figure me out. Some of the most interesting, and in my opinion rewarding, social networks do the exact opposite and GIVE me new links to people and new information.
Take the Zune social, this looks at what I listen to and has introduced me to some of the most interesting bands I know today as well as people with similar tastes. If you could take that aspect of how I and many other twenty somethings use their PCs and integrate it with a platform for sharing info and communicating you'd be onto a winner. For instance, there are a lot of interesting things here on EpicFu and I clearly share a lot of the same interests as some of the people here, there are probably a lot more blogs and podcasts I would be interested in yet there isn't one central hub for getting all the cool things out there, unless you count Digg, which doesn't take into account my usage of the internet, just votes- maybe a cross between Digg and Last.fm/Zune Social for web pages, podcasts etc.
Seriously though I think for the older users its more about the people, whereas the younger users could be swayed with razzle dazzle features. I think Facebook has found a good spot near middle ground.
a few things struck me about being here on mix (don't know about other ning groups as this is the only ning one I'm a member of)
1, the ability to post your own content, be it photos, videos, music
2, as a user, you have your own blog, and can take part in the network's discussion forum.
3, all of your content and any of the updates get their "15 minutes of fame" on the front page
the likes of Bebo and Bookface (both of which I'm a member) don't have the ability to upload music, although there are apps that allow you to stream from other sites though, and that's one thing that makes me favor mix ahead of those 2 giants right now.
As for part 3, that has enabled me to see into the minds, lives, and creativity of other people around the globe, and likewise them with me. and they can comment and give feedback on what you show. the other 2 networks I mentioned are geting far too polluted with "what (insert mcguffin of choice here) are you" and pointless "poke me" style apps on everyone's pages that it's really chewing up my valued bandwidth, and patience.
I reckon the perfect model for what you want to set up is right under your nose, Here @:-)
ive had mine a while and i treat em like hell, they sound as good the day i got them, but are not as kinesteticly pleasing, ive scratched them pretty well
LOL @ earwax. I have never been a big fan of Pioneer headphones. The last Pioneer headphones i purchased were the SE-NC70S and in about three months the right side died out and the battery life was crap. What I do like about pioneer is the sound q...
Well I have the 2006 80 GB classic & the 32GB iPod touch both sound qualities are great but I must agree about the classic being better. I've been getting alot positive feedback about Sennheiser so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info!
