Hey guys, we're playing around with the idea of possibly using Drupal for the next evolution of the site (weighing pros and cons).
Any of you have any links to awesome designs for inspiration or advice to share (if you've used Drupal previously)? Looking for inspiration from all angles. Thx! :D
Can't help with Drupal. :( Have you looked at joomla! ?
My company actually uses it in our B to B site - which is quite different than what you're doing I know. Hm - maybe I am not terribly useful here... ;-)
no, no. no trickery. in this case, without the wink, that last sentence would have been more of a downer. i'm saying i'm not REALLY that upset about being useless...or we can just blame it on my general over-use of emoticons.
i would agree that there are a lot of wonky-looking drupal sites, but there *are* some great-looking ones.
we're not sure if we're going to use drupal -- we've spent a long time on the ning platform and it could be a huge problem getting the community over to another tool.
sometimes this weekend we're hoping to get a discussion post up that details what we want the new site to do, what we want the new format to be, and get all of your feedback on it so we can do it right. i've been researching tools and platforms for the last 2-3 days and i have a pretty good idea what we'll need to do, just hoping to come across something that has it at least partially built.
By the way, a lot of what we want to do was in part inspired by Epic Faux! I've been trying to remember to get back to you on that project forever. More to come...
If you have the time to sit down and write your own layout and custom designs for drupal then go for it. Drupal is extremely powerful and I love it to bits but I really lack the coding skills to bring a lot of my ideas about what I want to with it to life.
One of the things that surprises me the most about it though is how easy and quick it is to add new things to it and keep building on it. There are so many open source modules that you can install it's insane.
Some of the user functions are also really cool, being able to split people up into multiple groups and also hand over moderation duties to others is something that I get the feeling mix could use as it would give you guys some time to work on other things.
Any way have a look at it and if you need some beta testers send me an e-mail.
I just want something to be set straight, is this gonna be used for Epicfu.com? or here on mix?
if it is for mix, so far I have enjoyed being on here, for reasons already stated here. And if a change is made, I hope the same layout and format stays visually as it is currently on Ning.
This might seem like a small pixel in the picture, but one thing i really like is the "drag & drop" file upload applications here on mix/ning, the big players (bebo & bookface) just have a "go to a directory and check what you want to upload" interface which i find slow and annoying. I hope these are kept for the new iteration :D
Which version of Drupal are you planning on running? I've been messing around with layouts and CSS in version 6 and you can create some pretty nifty stuff. I am planning on re building my music website and my new labels website and business structure around it entirely which should be good.
Sounds good. Get some beta testers for it too, it's often easy to set things up in the permissions for the admin user and then screw them up for your default users. I ended up having stuff like users not being able to create forum threads cause I missed ticking off a box and it took a week for someone to tell me about it.
LOL @ earwax. I have never been a big fan of Pioneer headphones. The last Pioneer headphones i purchased were the SE-NC70S and in about three months the right side died out and the battery life was crap. What I do like about pioneer is the sound q...
Well I have the 2006 80 GB classic & the 32GB iPod touch both sound qualities are great but I must agree about the classic being better. I've been getting alot positive feedback about Sennheiser so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info!
lol dear Mr. Wolf, I've gone down this road before. I can't handle the uncertainty and mind boggle. Have you seen the movie "The Believer"? If so, remember the end? The dude keeps climbing the stairs, again and again, each time facing the same man...
Thank you for the reply.
Right now I am working on some clips for youtube and other online media. I am thinking about putting our prime minster (Meles Zenawi) who ordered the 194 students shot dead on May 15,2005 right alongside Sadam Husseine.

OneWingedFly, I'm deeply sorry to hear of your homeland's current situation. I had no idea about any of this. :(
One thing that I would note is that you can't MAKE people care, necessarily. People have to make up their own opinions and beliefs in...
Inspiring speech is inspiring?
Anyways, this question is much like the famous "If a tree falls in the middle of the forest and nobody's around to hear it, does it make a sound?" Just by the nature of the question, it's impossible to prove either w...
We make our own realities, life is just a giant demonstration of the placebo effect and the power of our own minds. Everything is possible, just think it!
