Looks like Palm and Apple are off to court about Palm not getting something right.
So what do you think? Does palm have a good chance to kicking Iphone out of the top spot?

OMG i hope not... im actually finally getting an iPhone on Tuesday WOOP WOOP. But to the topic, i dk. Palm is a great brand, but so is Apple... both almost equally matched. The one thing i think that differs though (not to favor my favorite side) but Apple seems to fall low, then all of a sudden a new addon comes out, or a new update, or a new model... and everyones in awe. I think apple has the money to take on the challenge, they have a great phone already and are constantly looking at new ways to improve it.

No, I think Palm is such an underdog, even if they do have a superior product, nothing will knock the iPhone off. The stuff the iPhone does well, it does at 110%. The stuff it sucks at keeps me from getting one.

I get a terrible AT&T around here in Phoenix, AZ. I do a lot of driving, and when I did have an AT&T phone, I'd drop calls like crazy.

Since moving to Verizon, I don't have any dropped calls. AND, I can get service at my house - which I cannot with AT&T.

So, until iPhone moves to CDMA, I can't / won't get one.

http://www.gearlog.com/2009/02/toshiba_announces_tg01_iphone.php

Toshiba this morning has announced the TG01, a Windows Mobile-powered touchscreen smartphone the company intends to position against the iPhone 3G, Samsung Omnia, and HTC Touch HD overseas, SlashGear reports. There are no plans to bring it here just yet, but the specs are pretty impressive: the TG01 has a 4.1-inch WVGA (800-by-480-pixel) touchscreen, which handily beats the iPhone—although it's resistive, not capacitive like the iPhone and T-Mobile G1 panels.

The TG01 also features 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and A-GPS radios, along with the company's proprietary 3D user interface. In addition—and this is significant—it uses Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon QSD2850. The report said that the chip has dynamic speed control, letting it run for a long time at lower clock speeds whenever the user isn't doing anything CPU intensive in order to conserve battery life. Still, could this be the first Windows Mobile handset that truly flies in terms of performance?

Other nice details: the handset responds to gestures and shaking, the latter of which can answer and end calls. Toshiba said that the TG01 will be available in Europe over the summer; no word yet on networks and price. We'll probably hear more about this one at MWC in a couple of weeks.

Engadget's had a bit more time with the PRE

from the outset it seems that The ex apple guy might dipped into his apple knowledge for use in the coding of the pre's software. But I think a neutral person with suitable coding knowledge would need to look at it before determining if whether or not apple has a case =/

But externally I've noticed a trend that's pretty scary. Net connectivity through the Iphone and more lately the Ipod touch all seem to be centering around permanently installed Apps on the devices themselves. Pretty soon all your fave sites will be represented by an app on the device and with much space will be taken up on it I reckon =/ especially on non-expandable devices like the Iphone, and no spaces will be left for music or videos. which kinda defeats the purpose methinks

However as a Winmo user I believe I've found a superb solution: Skyfire

I've used this quite a bit on my TYTN II and it is great over a WIFI. I think this is the way to go as certainly flash (animations and videos embedded in the websites) work like a charm. My display is currently320 x 240 but skyfire works on this. Imagine it with the higher res phones on the market Like the HTC touch HD.

If this can be incorporated into Palm's Web Os from under apple's noses then this could be a crucial strike.

Also I'm hoding out for a phone with the following feature set:

capacitive touch screen, (i don't like the spongyness of the resistive ones any more)
Slide out qwerty keyboard
Wifi enabled
flash support embedded in web pages itself
memory expandability through SD/micro cards Maybe even Micro/sd XC cards
3.5mm headphone jack
Mini USB hack/socket (so i can charge it from anywhere with a USB port)
THe ability to put and remove Media on the device without using something like Itunes to sync it (this is what's keeping me well away from apple portable devices)

The Pre was ticking all the boxes, however at the time of posting Palm, haven't confrimed if they've got flash to work in a browser yet, If thay can get skyfire to work on the pre then I won't complain. however what stopped me drooling is that The pre, Like the Iphone has no expandable memory, it's biggest memory is only 8GB internal, which is pretty dissapointing since you can get 8GB on one of these... =/ if they added MicroSD HC expandability onto it then I woulda been sold :(

Thanks man!! :) especially since I realise now that I could have worded some of that post a bit better, but I can't edit it now :(

anyways, one of my main vices is technology, Gizmos and gadgets, consumer electronics & software (however you want to call it) , I think I haven't done too badly writing about it considering that my main gadget arsenal is pretty limited, not through lack of finance but for other reasons too.

What I'd be interested in finding out is how these tech blogs started up, for example the most obvious one being engadget, but also a couple of others in the form of tracyandmatt, as well as modaco and anythingbutipod

what did they have to do to start freely reviewing gear, I've not delved extensiveley into their archives, but did they have to purchase their gear before giving independent reviews? =/ but yes, (p/)Reviewing tech online like engadget is something I'd quite like to do with my time on terra firma :P

LOL @ earwax. I have never been a big fan of Pioneer headphones. The last Pioneer headphones i purchased were the SE-NC70S and in about three months the right side died out and the battery life was crap. What I do like about pioneer is the sound q...

Well I have the 2006 80 GB classic & the 32GB iPod touch both sound qualities are great but I must agree about the classic being better. I've been getting alot positive feedback about Sennheiser so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info!
