On this week's show we talk a lot about change. Generally we all can find a way to make due with the things we're less than happy with. Either that, or we find a way to change them. I know that I wish we owned a home instead of paying rent, but that's just small potatoes. Think big:

If you could change one thing about your life, what would it be?

My main Desire has always been to move away from where I live . right now with me being in Thailand, and meeting & speaking with some of the ex pats & colleagues around here. They are all on an international contract. Now If I go on one of those, I'll be payed exactly the same numerically, Except in $US. now several months ago, that wouldn't have been feasable as that would have meant a 50% pay cut since the dollar has been worthless against other currencies. Now that the dollar's taken some steroids this avenue does seem more appealing. However, i don't know how long this will last.

What's more. My father was also a "service hand" in this industry when he started out in the mid-late 70's. And he was immediately put on an international contract, and along with my mum, was sent to and stationed in Brazil (Rio). This was just before Everything turned to shit financially in the UK and it all worked out well for him as the dollar was strong back then. Methinks, financially at least, history is repeating itself.

I finish this stint here in Thailand at the end of the month, I'll make some queries about this when I get back home. Although I don't really want to be stationed in the orient as a single man, the women here remind me of holland :P

In general I think I should have been more confident in my life. I was very different to everyone in my home town growning up. I should have revelled in it rather than feel isolated. Nowadays I look up to how people live their lives in More cosmopolitan cities around the world (especially getting wind of things through shows like Fu and threadbanger) rather than the overgrown isolated community that is where I'm from, and feel great in the knowledge that that's how I aspire to be. :)

About my life?

I'd be living with my girlfriend who's far far away right now, and I'd actually be a good and non-gimmicky musician.

I dunno, for something less sappy, I guess I would change my lack of motivation when I'm down. I think that that one small change would change everything else that's not so great.

despite the alarming number of seriously or chronically or at least clinically depressed people, emotions never get credit for what good they do.

they get the blame for disrupting rationality, for hate and sadness and anger, but everyone is looking for ways to be happy, to be excited, to be in the emotional state they need to be in to move the world into place. when emotions are that important to living, i like to think that we'd take one more look at all the ways they have helped us in life. then perhaps, we will not be ashamed of them, that we'll allow ourselves to have them again, and just maybe we'll be less depressed and stronger people.

the 2008 election is a good example. a lot of things won that campaign, but it was only possible with excitement and emotion. if we give emotions the credit they deserve, we might tend to them more, suppress them less, and waste less energy pretending to be computers and spend it on being human.

i hope the rant is helpful and not merely annoying. i know what it's like to be long-distance, and i hope you and your girlfriend are reunited soon.

Well said. :) Though I hope I didn't come across sounding massively depressed in my post, very well said.

And thanks, I hope we can be reunited too. XD We'll be meeting again in December, but I'll have to leave again, for a little while. Ah well, I'm definitely appreciating what I have. :D

nah, i wasn't implying there was anything wrong with you. just that i think it would be easier to be happy in a society that didn't seem to view all emotions (besides apathy) as a mental illness, because we wouldn't have to be closeted about the fact that we actually have feelings, we'd be more experienced with them and there would probably be less depression. (even of the momentary variety.)

i would say "or maybe that's a guy thing" but i bet most women turn their emotions down just a little at work so that no one "interprets" them the wrong way, until after a while they don't even know they're doing it.

I am at this exact point in my life because I am myself, and i guess i don't want to change that, it's who i am, and if i had the chance to just snap my fingers and make a wish, i don't think i could do it, it wouldn't be real, it wouldn't be me. We should fight for what we want, and if we don't get it, we weren't meant to have it.

Though there are some things in life I don't like, I don't think I'd ever change what I was given.

I would change my eating & exercise habits, but I'm just to damn lazy.

Change... a possibility of life.
In change I will learn to love more with out exceptions. Mi madre me dijo, that all people are gifts in life. I will change the breathing of my cause, I feel it, but I have not found it.
I want to work, not for money, for fulfillment.

I read of J. Gibran once, "that work in a pure state of mind is a true expression of love in our action". I think it Ironical that in this multi-multi world in which we change, I, like a lot of people, am missing parts of my craft.
Can you change that?
Maybe I will, start change, I will then talk, people into respecting our flora and respecting trash, just for starts, I will change.

This is going to sound really vain, but here goes anyways.

I really wish I was better in my relationships with women.

I think all of us have some segment of our lives that we just "don't get." Well I don't understand women, in a way that is similar to a blacksmith not understanding computers. There's some operational information I've missed out on.

But I'm working on it, talking to as many women as I can. Tough to do in a small town dominated by oil field workers, but I'm tryin' damnit!

I would have stood up for myself more and stopped caring what other people think about me....

And I would have went to more NSYNC concerts! =]

I agree with the NSYNC concerts thought. I was a major fan of them and I still am (and yes I'm a guy). I saw them when they were on the Pop Odyssey tour and it was great. I got to watch it from a suite with free pizza!

Also, I too wish I stopped caring what other people think about me. It would've made high school easier.
