Here's my problem, I own a PS3, and I love everything about it. I made sure i got it the day they were released and consider it to be one of the best purchases i ever made. It does exactly what I want it to do (and more)... But, almost everybody I know owns an Xbox 360, and it obviously means I cant game up online with them! I have made friends with ppl over the PS Network, but its not the same as battling someone you really know, your 'real' friends.

So, am thinking of buying a 360, with perhaps a game or two and a headset, to do some arse whipping against my mates.... but what I want to know is are there any reasons why i shouldnt buy one??? Any issues i should know about??? Or is it all good? Most of my mates say its sound, but i spoke to one guy who said there been problems with the Xbox network lately, especially in UK. This worry me as playing on the network is all i really want it for!... I will be playing my ps3 the most, but now and again i might wanna kick some 360 arse, but at £200, i dont wanna be left disappointed.

I have an XBOX 360, and I love it! The selection of games is excellent, whether you want to play online or single player. I haven't had any problems as of yet...
However, I have seen my friends get the "red light" problem, and I've heard it's pretty common, so be careful. Keep your gaming to a few hours at a time because apparently it overheats easily. When it gets too overheated, you get red lights and the console won't work anymore. I think Microsoft replaces the system if this happens, though.
I don't know too much about it, though. Anybody have any inside info on this?

Hmmmm, interesting. you get the same problem with the PS3 but i have 2 say I've never seen it happen. You could cook an egg on the heat that comes off it! But there are coolent fans for that right??? Thanks for the replies ppl, hopefully i get paid 2moro, so i might take down game shop. One other thing i was wondering, can you get re-conditioned 360's? Ones that were broken but have been fixed by Microsoft? Or is that not a good idea?

I wouldn't know. Nintendo 64 is my game.

I'm serious.

The red light issue, more commonly known as the CD burner heating up beyond what was meant. I think this was mainly an issue in the older versions of the system and has since been repaired with the newer releases. One thing you do have to be careful of regardless is what surface its on, even the newer versions that I've seen still tend to get quite warm and I find I have to keep it in a well ventilated area. XBox will indeed replace the system if it overheats, but I think they only do that if its still under warranty, again it shouldn't be an issue with the newer models.

The system is great overall, I prefer it to my Wii for game selection, but for some reason I always fall back to my computer for gaming. I always go back to where I started I guess.

Let me make it simple, if you can afford it, and you want it buy it. You are in a first world country with a better internet infrastructure so stop scratching your head about it and just get it and be happy.
And the red light problem, just keep your box and but a auxiliary ventilator for your X-box 360 (i would recommend the one that have two or more fans)

It seems there's a lot of confusion as to what causes the proverbial Red Ring Of Death problem - the fine details are fairly irrelevant but it is a heat issue. The latest ones generally suffer the least, regardless if it does happen you get it replaced for free and if you whinge a bit you can get MS to throw in some loot to soften the blow.

The recent network problems were simply MS being victims of their own success - around Christmas there was a huge influx, millions of new users on Xbox Live downloading ludicrous amounts of content. The problems seem to have been ironed out ages ago (ie around new year).

I would recommend the 360 over the PS3. A lot.
I don't own either - my flatmate owns our 360 and a friend owns a PS3. I was playing on it today, in fact. Not impressed.

The graphics occasionally had a slight edge but mostly I feel the 360 is roughly on par (mainly because there's virtually no incentive for developers to put lots of efforts into optimising the PS3 version).

So yeah, cheaper hardware, bigger (and arguably better) games library, excellent multiplayer support and a rather impressive online service.
MS may be utter wank at building OSes but their console isn't to be sniffed at.

64 is great, but not as great as Super Nintendo!

The red light is a possible problem but hey why not?

If you don't like it just sell it.

Buy Counterstrike source for pc and we'll game it up^_^

In reality Microsoft has an amazing friend and matching service via Xbox Live, you'll really enjoy it, it's definitely worth the money.

The top games you should get for Online being Call of Duty 4 and Halo3.

As a fan of both systems myself I can tell you the 360 is a must have system right now, game-wise and especially if you are at all interested in online multiplayer. Xbox Live is years ahead of PSN. If you have friends with 360's it's a no brainer.

I play my 360 at least 3 times as much as my PS3. But I do watch a lot of Blu-ray...
