Guerrillas or Gorillas? Kinda reminds me of the movie Captain Ron, not to make light of the speculated situation though.

Yes, the metal ore in question is coltan, from which niobium and tantalum are extracted. Tantalum is used mainly in capacitors, and they go into any and all electronic devices. The mining of this ore in Congo threatens the Eastern Lowland gorillas' habitat, which live exclusively in the forests of Congo, and the money made form the mining are helping to finance the present-day conflict in the Congo.
