Why should anyone get special treatment from the law?

On this week's show, we talked about R. Kelly's ridiculous trek through the justice system and Paris Hilton's attempt to manipulate the system. We've all heard the stories about celebs who dance through the raindrops when they get in trouble.

What's the deal here? Is fame a get out of jail free card? Sometimes it's seems like it's even worse to be famous, but then you think of all the free passes celebrities get and I don't know...

When it comes to celebrities, NO, they should not be given special treatment when it comes to the law. Plus I really can't feel for them when they make so much money and can't find a damn good lawyer. I don't believe they should be used as examples either, just charge them and give them the same treatment as anyone else. Hopefully because of their status they may expose the unlawfully acts that happens in the judicial system. As far as Prince Harry, yes if he choses to go let him. But wasn't there a time when Kings and Princes (Queens and Princesses) proudly fought in the battles that their country were involved in. As a matter of fact many got their royalty because of the bravery they displayed.unfortunately we can't say that about a few our recent Presidents, especially one who disappeared for a while.

I think that Paris Hilton took it to far, by doing a petition on the net, that may be something like taking it overboard, and R. Kelly maybe that is because he got a lot of money or maybe is not the money i really dont know.

I never thought i would say this, but its not the celebrities fault.

Celebrities don't get special treatment because of who they are, but simply what they have and who they know.
We've all been in a situation where its come down to who you know or how secure your finances are to get out of a predicament...it simply could be the difference between having 'good luck' or 'bad luck'.....Due to the constant interest and scrutiny we put upon lives of celebrities WE give them a pass. WE keep buying records and supporting the lifestyles of known perverts and pedophiles. WE breathe the energy into the antics of over popularized socialites and her entourage by 'tuning in' or 'reading up'. Afterall we don't get hurt just observing, right? And deep down we all wish we had that sense of freedom.

Unfortunately as long as WE tell ourselves that, people with substantial financial security will always serve less time for anything they do, and people with nothing will always serve more...you have to balance it out. Someone has to do the time. As long as WE continue to look at celebrities and their lives as more valueable and enriching than our own, they will continue to wave their get out of jail free cards in our faces; and WE'll continue to cry out thats not fair....

And next time you hear R.Kelly do as I do, change the station and pray for him....and Paris, well I hope one day she has the oppportunity to show us she's more than just a pretty, popular girl, but instead a powerful dynamic woman behind an empire.

UNTIL ANOTHER MOMENT IN TIME......MANY ALONYS KISSES.

FREE YOUR MIND.....SUPPORT THE ARTS BECAUSE THE ARTS CREATE HARMONY IN AN OTHERWISE CHAOTIC STATE OF EXISTENCE.

I have to say.. That although It is respectable that Prince Harry was willing and wanted to go. I think It was smart decision to not have him serve in Iraq. For the simple reason that he is a danger to his fellow soldiers and anyone else who is out in the field with him. During Medieval times.. (correct me if I'm wrong) didn't Kings and princes..go off to war but serve more from a command post than rather in the trenches? When it comes to soldiers moral having the prince of their country killed would be a devastating blow to the English people and a big victory for the enemy.

as for Paris... YAY give that judge a raise!

Um, no, they should not. But I'm all in favor of creative punishments for them. What would be a good sentence for Paris Hilton?

celebs will always get special treatment as long as people continue to praise them as always. we catch them in a public place and everyone around freaks out, why? there just an ordinary person right?! but no people dont think of them as ordinary people. so how do they react? the go ahead as see themselves being larger then the average person. they have special privileges they feel they deserve for this sort of superiority power we bistow upon them. so this is only why they feel they diserve this little note on a piece of paper :D

as for the prince, hey he choose it let him do it. like i said people are people, yeah there important but they have the choice of being behind the lines where they feel they can do more for the people by doing so, but others could use this to better themselves and just show peolpe of the world that there flesh and blood too.

another jumble of thoughts brought to you by Andy :D haha

Well, well, a tough question, this one, since the answer is really YES, they should get special treatment from the law.

Obviously your conscious brain tells you the answer is NO, that just bc someone is famous or wealthy doesn't mean they get special treatment. We aren't rich, famous, or powerful - and the people who are, well if they fall into the mud, then we don't really mind that so much; it makes for good conversation.

BUT...we live in a society that does, just does, and you can't deny it, treat celebrities differently. We are a part of that society and as much as we hate to admit it, everyone - EVERYONE, including you, the person reading this (assuming you're from a western culture), actively contributes to the idea that celebs deserve breaks. You know you do it. That's part of what makes them celebs. And we all hold onto that dream, that someday, our ship will come in, and we'll become the person that everybody else wishes they could be, and then we get to just sit back and enjoy the perks and special treatment...so we allow celebrities to exist, and help perpetuate their status into our hearts and minds.

To say they dont deserve special treatment is hippocrisy. Unless you can ignore them out of existence, and give up your dream of ever becoming one of them. This is generally what I try to do, but its not easy to go against the herd.
