Online best friends?

well i got web friends from all over the world and keep in touch with them through facebook mainly....we have a lot in common and over the years have even visited a few....one in australia and another in bali but thats becoz i was on holiday so thought i might as well catch up...havent ever dated a girl ive met online though for reasons unknown :)

I have a friend in germany that I am very close with, but i initially met him in person. I want to meet more people online, I just get a little scetched out sometimes with all the creeps out there. How do you know that the person you are talking to is legit?

yea i guess it is different for girls as you said alot of creeps out there.....i guess theres no way of knowing for sure but if you have good conversation with that person online then i guess its not hurting anyone....the real conundrum (lol i love that word dont even know if its appropriate in the context) is whether to meet them in person or not after the fact....they could turn out to be creeps who were just posing the whole time??!!!

Well, you don't. They could be lying, but the point is not to tell them where you live. Because if they don't know that... then they can't really harm you in any way. I just hang out around people on crywolfgame.com. People may swear in there... so... yeah... if you go don't say you weren't warned.

yup but then again theres always the chance the guy is genuine......my friends engaged to a girl he met through facebook they are the best couple i have ever met!! i think amanda meant if you can be good friends with a person online while not ever meeting them....to that question my answer is yes definetly!!

I think, that if you talk to somebody long enough, you will know whether the person is legit or not. Of course, it depends on the subjects, you discuss (that is, the diversity of your conversions). There are usually tell-tale signs, when you talk to someone about many different things.
However, I think most people have a facade that they put out. They have a personality, they want to project. Some part of themselves, that they want to emphasize. Sometimes, they will act differently in person. Perhaps they are more introvert/shy. You might not think, they are the same person, when you meet them. We can be very different people depending on which facade, we put up.
It all depends on how much you open up to each other, both in physical life and online.

best friends and internet best friends are different things. atleast to me.

i had some internet best friends. it was awesome. i learned about all the things he did, and the places he went and about his girlfriend and his tough times and it was an interesting experience.

My parents met first in person then courted remotely, back in the pre-internet days, more recently my sister found her husband using the internet. I met my first proper girlfriend via the internet (amazing what a random skype call can do to your life). If I hadn't met her I wouldn't have travelled to Edinburgh, wouldn't have found I loved this city and chosen to go to university here. She's long gone, but I still love the city and my uni, hehe.

I'd met several other ladies in person, having first met online, but I didn't take things further with them, mainly because I wasn't ready.

As for non-romantically, I've made some amazing friends through the internet, many of whom I now know in person, or friends of mine know in person. A friend introduced me to a girl named Hannah, a great girl but not really my type, we became close friends. Soon after I established my website and built up a community on the forum there. People joined from other communities I've been a part of. A friend of mine from another community, Josh, became a regular. Hannah and Josh met through my site and now are dating (as in, in person). It seems they make an amazing couple too, from what I've heard and seen.

I've met a lot of my friends through videoblogging more than text blogging or forums (where, yeah, you can't really tell who you're talking to).

Actually, when I moved to California, I met most of the friends I have now on the web through video. It's been pretty awesome. You still always have to be very careful though (not give out too much personal info).

The weird thing was that after getting to know someone through video for a long time and following their lives, when I got to meet them in person it was kinda like meeting their 3d version. :) I felt like I already knew them.
