Check out this image that Zadi and I found from this article:

If you see her spinning to her right (clockwise if you were looking down on her), you use more of your RIGHT brain. If you see her spinning to her left (counter-clockwise from above) you use more of your LEFT brain. If you focus, you can make her switch direction, I swear. FREAKY!

Here's the difference:

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

its 1/2 and 1/2 for me

I clicked on this discussion and when the image first downloaded she was spinning counter-clockwise. After I read the description and looked again she started turning clockwise. (?) And when I caught a glance from the periperal she started spinning counter-clockwise again.

Also, no matter how hard I concentrated, the only thing I noticed was that she's cold. (and yes, i feel slightly creepy for noticing. or for sharing that i noticed.) 8^P

i must be hardcore right brained or something... i can't make her turn left. it's such an internal struggle for me. maybe i'm half brain dead...

Try to blink ... varies speed.
You could also try without those ski googles ;)

Whoa.

I always wondered why emotion=logic and logic=emotion.

Thanks right brain!

Cool find guys.

Well, I'm right brained and I can't make her switch. Wonder what this means?

I was looking at this some days ago, and back then she spun clockwise (a few times I could force her the other direction). Now that I revisit it she just spins counter-clockwise.

The answer to this puzzler has not as much to do with one half of the brain being dominant to the other, but has more to do with the way the brain and our vision works in general. The truth is that the animation is made so that the direction is ambiguous and because we only see a silhouette our brain can more easily be fooled. It is an optical illusion.
When we see, what we see is not continuous, instead our brain is reconstructing the images we see. Our brain works pretty much like movie cameras (or maybe it's the other way around), which mean, that we in a way take snapshots and the brain has to construct the flow by filling in the blanks. Now the timing of each snapshot is the major factor here, and depending on the positions the dancer is in, our brain will reconstruct the most sensible direction.
It is a similar effect at work, when you look at the wheels of a fast-moving vehicle. Because our perception is slower than the speed of the moving wheel, we only get images (snapshots) for part of its rotation, and so based on the position of certain visual details on the wheel, our brain must determine and reconstruct direction of rotation. Since the snapshots occurred at a slower rate, we get sort of a so-called aliasing effect, that is, that the positions coincides with those it would be in, if it were rotating the other direction and at a lower speed.

I see her going clockwise, then if I try to flip it I can, but to flip her back I have to space out and start to daydream.
Soooo..... Right dominate with control of both?

It's a really neat optical illusion. Not sure if it's really indicative of one side of the brain or the other, but I guess I'm right brained (and left handed).
