i know a guy who built a prototype that gets 120 mpg...i'm waiting for that one to hit the main stream
till then i support diesels running on recycled veggie oil...
It is a lot of effort - a lot of preparation work. You do need to make sure that you have worked out the chemical reactions correctly and have appropriate safety gear. I spent a few weeks going over the different reactions and and the exact quantities of acid etc required for the oil to change into fuel. Not something I would recommend just to whip up yourself at home at all!
these have been around in the uk for quite a long time now- they are really popular, particularly in cities like london.
Im glad that they're finally making it to you guys- i hear people were smuggling them in before!
Honestly, It is totally not worth it in my opinion.
The 40 mpg is a load of crap. There is no reason for that car to get such LOW mileage. The smart cars in Europe do what....about 70 mpg?
It's safe against maybe a normal sized car, I don't want to see what would happen if a stupidly big Hummer or Escalade hits one of these things.
It's also far to expensive. Think about it for a second. If you get the lowest end model, it would still take 5+ years to balance out the money you would have been spending on gas. The highest end model would take even longer, since it's worth what, $28k?
If you do any highway driving, it becomes not worth it at all, instantly. the smart car is made for city use, and if you use it on a highway, the mpg becomes even crappier than it is now.
Make it cheaper, and don't bullshit us Americans saying it can only get 40 mpg, that's a complete load of crap.
good going with the build man, I dunno if you carved the stuff out beforehand, but this kinda reminds me of when Queen's Brian May built his "red Special"

Heard a bit of chiptune-age in there... did you get the audio from .XM files by any chance?
What I was referring to, was that the way that this "could" move forward, was that people might be able to search for info about any random person through taking a photograph in the street, they don't even have to be famous.
