my grandparents want to buy a computer and they dont have any experience at all... they want one for their pictures, internet and that sort of thing....I personally use a PC but I do know that MACs have their advantages (esp. when it comes to pics etc.)...but are my grandparents gonna be able to use them or would it be too complicated??
What advice should I give?

I use both macs and pcs in my field and I am typing this message on a mac at the moment. i think from a price standpoint they can get more out of a pc. I have an imac which many people like because its a simple all in one solution and allows you to run both windows and the mac os together. If you go for a mac wait until the new os comes out which will come with bootcamp for running windows pre installed and out of the beta testing phase.

Howdy Linda,

Just thought I'd leave some feedback about what kind of computer to buy. I actually work for Apple doing networking support, so I feel I should be able to offer some perspective. For the most part the calls I experience are related to people misunderstanding how things are supposed to work or some other kind of user error. With Mac's they take a little more getting used to because people don't use them as commonly. However, once you get used to how they operate you will hardly ever have to deal with hardware failure or crazy software glitches like you might on a Windows machine. If you think they can handle the learning curve then I say go for the Mac but if you want something that you could help them use you might be better suited getting a PC. If you do get a Mac however, get the Apple Protection Plan so that they can call Apple for help instead ;D

I have both Mac and PC. My grandfather always needed help with his PC. There is one problem when you are on the internet using a Mac and you want to reply or you hit the contact us button the Mac mail launches and some folks think they have sent mail when they have not. Most seniors don't want to pay $99 a year when they can get email for free.

Do you mind if I tac on to your question? Some one mentioned mac mini being stopped.... Is there more info on this? I need one for my son and I was going to wait until Oct. I am new here so just let me know if I need to ask that as my own question.... Thanks.

Well it may not be exactly which computer operating system is better but what hardware will help to make their experience the best one! For instance.. swap out the standard keyboard for one with larger lettering on the keys such as the "Chester Creek Vision Board"
or perhaps you could look at a media center where they can store their pics, check their emails and watch TV from their couch. Such as Gateway's 840GM desktop and Dell's XPS M140 laptop. Of course you will have to show them the in's and outs

I wish I could say im just that smart but I took a look at the AARP Website it has alot of info on there for seniors. Ha I bet that is the first time anybody has mentioned the AARP on MIX!

Good Luck!
That being said... I would go with a Mac Much easier.. almost sometimes too fischer price like which would be good
