MIX

I love exploring new music, but it's so difficult to find great artists popular or otherwise.

Post the names of artists that make such great music that they deserve a little more exposure or public knowledge. They can be indie or they can be big in one country and you feel that more people in your country should know about them.

It would also be awesome to post the title of some of their best songs so other people can discover them and see how great they are.

The Go! Team "Ladyflash", "Huddle Formation", "Milk Crisis"
Elise Estrada "Poison", "These 3 Words"
Killola "All of My Idols are Dead", "Barrel of Donkeys"
Skye Sweetnam "Human", "Kiss A Girl", "Smoke and Mirrors"
Vanilla Ninja "Heartless", "Tough Enough"
The Grammar Club "Heart T*ts", "Balloon Fight", "My Gay Shirt"
Girlicious "Here I Am", "Left Over"
Heartsdales "Foxy Lady", "Candy Pop"
Hot B*tch Arsenal "Double Down Quick"
Jonathan Coulton "W's Duty", "I Feel Fantastic"

Go forth and contribute. Let the world know what sounds good to you.

Mika Miko sounds great. They've got an old-school punk sound.

several times a week i check out youtube for the best new music i can find. my criteria are that they are not signed, that they make a video (i can't stand the photo slideshows) and that everything is original. not all of it is polished, some of it is more like folk music, but there's some great stuff there. here are some favorites:

madi horne: say you don't want to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm-arzMxrDY
sweetafton23: myhope http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avxpn_MsPYs
gregdelinator: the_cameraman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEE-CbetSUc
casey smith: chasing fences
fabthegap: dear lady http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGmL-cearqQ
jackiesguitar: somewhere http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utq07RcSQzk
lbguitz2: purple 7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIHpNWid1hA
yoyoreb: give me cheek http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBXdCXBXu28

i also love adele adkins
and i adore mysti from spellbox
totally unrelated spam, i found this while i was assembling the above list and thought it might interest someone on mix. it's some youtube thing with oxfam, gcap, save the children and comic relief to fight poverty. http://www.youtube.com/blog?entry=rTn4yS6thTk

I like Adele, also. The video for "Chasing Pavements" was amazing.

First off, let me say that this is nothing against you or your taste in music. if you love something, go on and keep loving it.

but. . .
on average, tickets for the BMG are 100 bucks. They've been nominated for a Grammy award. hundreds of thousands of people see them each year in Vegas. and as far as painted white people banging on crap like a low rent version of STOMP! you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more famous.

sorry, the fact that they paint their selves blue in some non-committed, half-assed commentary on race, really pisses me off. it's a castrated, disney version of black face that lacks any meaning or edge. especially when you consider that it's just another group of rich white guys trying to pass of a dying trend as something more than a novelty.

they are to painted faced musicians what the Insane Clown Posse is to painted face musicians. a joke that's not so funny and lacks any real purpose. especially when considering the validity of their statement.

for a more relevant group of of percussionists, that have a much more reaching message about class, status and race. I suggest paying a visit to the subway and seeing the local bucket drummer.

WOW! maybe it's because i've been hibernating for the past few decades, but i had no idea people were stacked so much against blue man group. i mean i know a few people that went to see them and thought they were fantastic. (i'd love to see a local bucket drummer get a $100 bill sometime too, but that's another story.)

i'm not going to pretend my take on blue man group is more enlightened than yours, i really don't have any clue which of us has a more accurate view here. but reducing them to the blue face paint they wear (as if people like al jolson were the only people that ever wore face paint) seems almost as superficial as reducing black people to their skin color.

i mean yeah, they are the "blue man" group, but i thought they were the flashy, exotic, high rent version of stomp, not the other way around. as for whether they're a dying trend, you could say that about every other artistic idea in history, right? good or bad.

we agree though, it's an odd thing to see on this list, but since i mentioned coldplay as an aside, i really don't have any room to say "why did you mention blue man group, everyone's already heard them?" i didn't want to make an issue of it.

Actually, I only "discovered" the band a week ago (got DVD with their concert) and it was awsome. I love this band! :)

I got "When I Smile" by Free Moral Agents off of one of those Adult Swim compilation albums and I liked it. They're creative.
