EPIC FU once a week or twice a week? looking for your feedback!

The MIX community is always the first and best place Zadi and I can go to get feedback about the show.

Recently we've been talking about ways we can make Tuesday and Thursday shows different enough from each other that it's easy to recognize what will be on each day. For example, right now we do the Artist of the Week on Tuesday and the FU of the Week on Thursday.

But in discussing more ways to differentiate the days, we were looking at some of the viewership numbers around the two shows. Tuesday shows get as many views as Thursday shows, even though Thursday shows are actually up for twice as long (4 days versus 2 days for Tuesday).

This got us thinking -- would it be better to create one show per week and just pack it full of all the stuff we do on both days?

It wouldn't look that different from what we do now, but it would be longer. We'd be able to do more news, spend a little more time with our interviews, and have both an Artist of the Week and a FU of the Week, play flash games, do Campfires, the works.

What do you guys think? Is a once-a-week 9-10 minute show better than twice a week for 5-6 minutes each? Which would you prefer and why?

I hear what you're saying, Alex. Interestingly when we look at the actual visitors to epicfu.com, Tuesdays get almost double what we get on Thursdays. In fact, even Wednesday gets more people visiting the site to watch the show than Thursdays do. That got us worried that maybe the Thursday shows were getting lost.

Ultimately they get the same amount of views because the Thursday show is up for twice as long, but we're wondering now if that's an efficient way to create a show.

Good feedback, though. Thanks!

That's actually a great idea. However, I do like my double dose of Zadi...

If you decide to use the one day model will you break the segments into more defined categories?

Yeah, I think we'd lay out something that had lots of different segments with very quick, fun bumpers (intros and outros) between them. We'd follow the same basic structure -- news, spotlight video, interview -- but sandwiched in between all that would be all the other stuff we now do twice a week -- games, campfires, FUcabulary, etc.

I like the pace of the show and I think also has to do with its length. Ten minute shows with amazing content would be watched from start to finish but that would put a lot of burden on finding that content. I think twice a week is great.

I like the interviews and when I am interested in the topic, I generally go and find the longer version on the site.

No matter what, I am a fan!

If I can continue to get my dose of Fu addiction twice a week, that'd be super. Even if they are a little shorter, as long as there is more content over-all.

In response to some earlier posts; If the originality and the cutting edge nature of the show can remain intact, than by all means do 3 days a week or whatever you would like. I do think that would be a little strenuous to do all the research, editing, shooting posting and finally community- Mix response/outreach. I could see that it could be hard to keep that hectic pace, but than again I've never put on a show and y'all have been doing this a while, and you know how to organize your time. Sometimes I just don't know where you guys find so much kewl stuff!

I really like the reliability of the Tuesday and Thursday shows. After the extended break I was really happy that Fu was back and at regularly scheduled times. Though, I'm sure if you went to a once-a-week 9-10 minute episode it would still launch in a semi-regular way, or I hope at least.

I love seeing two episodes a week, but the old format was definitely very conducive to lengthy conversations on Mix and plenty of time for everyone to get all their comments in. I can't say for sure because it's been so long since I was as active as I should be on Mix, but I think with the twice-a-week scheduling it's harder for the whole community to get engulfed in a topic and really carry it away.

I think if you went to a once-a-week show it would be a lot easier for you to produce a really well researched and engaging show (not that the current ones aren't) instead of busting your balls to get two episodes posted every week. And it would also allow us to fully absorb the Fu.

I love having two show a week. Mostly I look up what was discussed in the show right after I watch. So the bite-sized episodes come in very handy for that. But I won't find it horrible if you decide to do one show a week.

I say, whatever is the easiest for you all. Will love it either way.

I'm gonna buck the trend and suggest once a week. You guys are doing a great job and if it's sustainable, keep it up, don't let me stop you.

On the other hand, if it's getting hard to keep up, find material, or even just budget the time with the staff you've got or anything like that, I wouldn't watch any less at once a week. I'm a proponent of quality over quantity.

As for the "foreign" correspondent thing, I'll throw my hat in if you need anything done in the Minneapolis, MN area. I'm a former journalism student (though print emphasis) with a camera, I could do something if asked.

I do look for my twice-weekly FU fix. But one longer weekly show would really be worth waiting for. I wonder though, what would happen to member participation on Mix? I'm usually on twice per week now. Has member participation changed since you switched from weekly to twice-weekly? I'm new since you switched from weekly to twice-weekly.

I know that my participation SKYROCKETED during the break. I was so desperate for FU that Mix became my fix. Now that the episodes are up twice a week, I haven't been keeping up like I like to. Don't know if that has as much to do with the FU as it does with life and all... so this may not be the most helpful response.

I didn't start until you guys on revision3, but the twice a week thing really helped me to be more active on the mix community. if it's once a week, i think i'll be like the other shows on rev3 that i would take like the day before the next episode to reply the episode before. of course if you guys make a really nice 10 min every week. that would be great. my other suggestion is to put it on a monday+thrusday schedule so u have the 3 day 4 day format. i knwo you guys cant be on friday because of diggnation, so monday + thursday would be great. or a tuesday firday relase date in the afternoon in stead of 8pm.

Well I have the 2006 80 GB classic & the 32GB iPod touch both sound qualities are great but I must agree about the classic being better. I've been getting alot positive feedback about Sennheiser so I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the info!
