EPIC FU once a week or twice a week? looking for your feedback!

The MIX community is always the first and best place Zadi and I can go to get feedback about the show.

Recently we've been talking about ways we can make Tuesday and Thursday shows different enough from each other that it's easy to recognize what will be on each day. For example, right now we do the Artist of the Week on Tuesday and the FU of the Week on Thursday.

But in discussing more ways to differentiate the days, we were looking at some of the viewership numbers around the two shows. Tuesday shows get as many views as Thursday shows, even though Thursday shows are actually up for twice as long (4 days versus 2 days for Tuesday).

This got us thinking -- would it be better to create one show per week and just pack it full of all the stuff we do on both days?

It wouldn't look that different from what we do now, but it would be longer. We'd be able to do more news, spend a little more time with our interviews, and have both an Artist of the Week and a FU of the Week, play flash games, do Campfires, the works.

What do you guys think? Is a once-a-week 9-10 minute show better than twice a week for 5-6 minutes each? Which would you prefer and why?

I didn't start until you guys on revision3, but the twice a week thing really helped me to be more active on the mix community. if it's once a week, i think i'll be like the other shows on rev3 that i would take like the day before the next episode to reply the episode before. of course if you guys make a really nice 10 min every week. that would be great. my other suggestion is to put it on a monday+thrusday schedule so u have the 3 day 4 day format. i knwo you guys cant be on friday because of diggnation, so monday + thursday would be great. or a tuesday firday relase date in the afternoon in stead of 8pm.

I would prefer a once a week show. It might relate to my lack of free time ( I try to watch the tuesday show pretty much as soon as its up and leave the thursday one for the weekend/when I eventually get to play on my computer)

The show in the 2 slot format feels like its missing something. I initially thought it was just the anticipation build up of a 7 day wait inbetween :o) but I now realise its because some of the segments are broken up over the 2 show format.

I would be happy to watch a 10 minute show. I've had some busy weeks lately and there have been times where I've watched both episodes back to back. Its really not hard to rewatch a 10 minute episode versus a shorter one (fast forward/rewind). I can see though there is a downside to the weekly format - less Zadi finger snapping goodness per minutes of episodes (not that I've calculated that).

Really I do not mind what you decide to do format wise. I'll still be watching.

ahem. Funetics. Where art thou?

Yeah... what she said. Or didn't.

Only issue I have is that it is released on youtube a couple of days later than on bitgravity or whatever its called which doesn't suit people like me on lower bandwidth internet, but I do however download the podcasts to be able to watch it smoother and it is more enjoyable in higher quality.

But that does bring me to another issue coming to think of it with "the first in first served" competitions. I'll never win one nor will anyone without high bandwidth internet.

Sorry if it seemed off topic, but the point I was getting to was I have to do this twice as much now. So once a week show would be easier to upload to youtube and keep low bandwidth fans up to speed with the show

I personally like to have my weekly dose of Epic Fu in two days! If i get it all in one it will FU overdose! I really like the Tuesday and Thursday format it's easier for me, because i arrive home from work and watch it really quickly and then re-watch it one more time if i missed something. Also it's easier to watch than longer shows. Maybe two 8 minute shows could do, but just with longer segments, like extended the interviews or something else. More frequent appearances from Sarah, Steve and Rick will help also

I like the idea of getting correspondents around the world. It will be cool if some Mix members could help, like Paco and his help with the 7 days without plastic. Maybe you can make a "correspondent camp" or something like that and let them post on MIX, then the best will go to EPIC FU shows.

If you guys are up for the work, then sure, why not?

The two-day concept is really good, and I wouldn't mess with it too much. What I'd like to see though is one episode be "normal" while the other one takes more risks. The regular format of Epic Fu is more than entertaining and informative, but the show really shines when it branches out and does weird and inspired things, like the skits, the DIY stuff, etc.

Personally I've been digging your shows from the beginning - the production gets stronger as you guys evolve and the content is timeless. I have learned from experience that smaller chunks are always better because it has people craving for more and it gives them the option to consume more material at their leisure. Plus attention spans tend to take in lesser bites (chomp chomp) than larger bytes (01001010).

Another thing to consider is that the people who consume you on Tuesday ... may only watch because of the artist of the week and may only want that bit of information. It could be an entirely different crowd altogether. I say diversification is always best especially with your brand(s). I hope I didn't sound too markety but thats my overall personal observation blah blah skip HA!!!

I've not known it any other way, and right now, I'm happy with it. I discovered The Fu when you took your month long hiatus in May. And by the time I finished watching all your FU/Jetset back catalog, I was ready for the current format to start.

One thing I have noticed since you've been back "on the air" was that in your old episodes you state "be sure to check on the epic fu blog for all the things that didn't make it into the show". now because of your bi weekly/more "airtime". just about everything that gets featured in the blog gets into the show anyway, by all means that's no bad thing.

However This next point may be because I went through the historical blogs in pretty much a one-er, and because of which I may well be totally off the mark, but humorous/linked blog posts don't seem to be posted in the blog as frequent as they did in the 1 week episodes. Stuff like "real life overpass guitar hero" and the beatboxing basset hound made me laugh. Also, weekend cinema was something I quite liked. I can't remember what it was called. but there was a short film where this little girl got a giant magic pencil, and everything she drew with it came to life. I can't remember what it was called but it's in the blog archives somewhere. Overall I think this is a side effect of you guys digging up, and working on new material for the now-more-frequent show.

Either way, you guys are doing a sterling job and if i was wearing a hat I'd take it off to you guys. @:-)

With the two week format I found myself doubting sometimes. (i.e. Is it Tuesday Already :D.) And then I remembered the two week thing. Personally the one week thing kept me coming for more and more. Until you lost me for about a month and then re-launched which made me very happy. And I have been watching ever since. But I really think that once a week would be just fine specially if you can fit more Fu goodies inside. :D.
