Growing up in the church, I was already exposed to Gospel/Soul. As I got older, i heard my parents and my brother listen to more gospel in addition to hip hop and R&B. Venturing off the preset radio buttons in the car and exploring other radio stations let m know that there were other sounds and styles out there than the heavily African American influenced sounds I was raised on. Many of which I found pleasant. I then became more open to what I heard. I have albums such Ludacris & T.I. to Paramore and Fall Out Boy. Natasha Beddingfield and The Foo Fighters to Musiq Soulchild & Stevie Wonder & Fred Hammond. How diverse is YOUR music collection and how important do you feel musical diversity is in our culture? Do you feel that the extremely overexposed mainstream POP STARS and their music are hiding other genres in their shadow or do you feel they get the attention that they deserve?
I was influenced by what my parents played Stevie Wonder,Bob Marley,Gregory Issac, Calypso etc then finding my own beats Michael Jackson,Booby Brown, and now I tend to listen to all types from experimental to classics like Marvin Gaye, Roberta Flack to Kanye West,MosDef,Lupe, it really depends on my mood,I am not ashamed to tap my foot to any type of genre.
Music diversity in our culture represents that particular era so yes it is important.
Mainstream pop stars are manufactured and tend to have a style that is fly for now and the attention they receive comes from the excessive marketing strategy of advertising, not sure I can answer whether the attention is deserved because of the hype attached, I know there are a lot of guys & girls with talent that deserve it more but have not been discovered or do not have the right look to be signed up.
Music labels will become a thing of the past and individual artists can manage themselves and advertise their music for free on the internet.
I grew up on classic rock. 70's greats... My dad and i would rock out in the car and he would quiz my on who the artist was and other trivia. It's part of the reason why my dad an i are so close. Then, in 4th grade, i got the "best of aretha" cd. Soul and R&B is the music i discovered on my own, and i love it just as much if not more than rock now. When i sing or listen to it, and i hit the right song, it can be so emotional and powerful. Yes yes, corny... i never felt that way with rock, i love it in another way. Soul and rock have the same roots, but are very different. **i do love santana about the same as the other genre. black magic woman is in my top ten albums.**
I have a rather large collection of music. I'm always trying to broaden my musical horizons... There is so much good music beyond what is in the main stream. Before I discovered the wonders of downloading music from the internet the only way for me to discover new bands was to talk to friends and people at the record shop or just pick up random cd's. Now I'm happy to say that I have a fairly large collection and its not from the top 40 billboard charts. I always look forward to the music suggestions in epic fu.
Keep searching for new music! You can be content with the mainstream musical feeding tube but you'll be missing out!!
Since I like to look for new stuff whenever I can I think I have the occasion to discover and appreciate different types, but to be honest there are some that I'll never stand. Like heavy metal, grunge music, trance music and some others that don't come to my mind right now. Aside from that, I'm pretty open to the rest. Come to think of it, the common point between the songs I like, regardless of their kind, is that they're fitting right the moment and the mood.
good going with the build man, I dunno if you carved the stuff out beforehand, but this kinda reminds me of when Queen's Brian May built his "red Special"

Heard a bit of chiptune-age in there... did you get the audio from .XM files by any chance?
What I was referring to, was that the way that this "could" move forward, was that people might be able to search for info about any random person through taking a photograph in the street, they don't even have to be famous.
