"do you want a bag for that?"
"No"

I have that conversation at least three times a week. Disclaimer: I only say no when I can just carry whatever it is I'm getting :)

I also refuse straws at restaurants, since I have this thing that I say to people - "why use a straw when you can just drink out of a perfectly clean, washed, and sterilized drinking glass? Its not that hard, even if it has ice. Think of the paper and plastic we'd cut back on if we just eliminated straws!" My s.o. teases me something fierce every time I go on my straw rant...the funny thing is, I often get a straw anyway, cuz its hard wired into the waiter/waitress' head. (and admittedly, a few drinks do necessitate the use of a straw) Its hard - its almost like the world wants you to trash it.

So concerning getting green, this is my advicey: Just change your ways, and complain complain complain. You get enough people all complaining about the same thing all the time all over the place at the same time, and the implicit social rules governing a society change...and then the actual laws change a few years later. So complain!

and great show guys! I lov'd the radiohead thing. awesome!

Want to talk about trash? Can you imagine what comes off a cruise ship? All the uneaten / half eaten food? All the paper, plastic, etc? The ships go out every week - with all new food and stuff.

Here in the UK, Plastic Bags are still dished out at supermarkets for free.

Also I've spent a fair bit of time last year working in Germany. I'm not too sure if it's a similar story across the pond just now (it wasn't at the wallmart I went to in Houston 2 years ago) but "aus deutchland" they charge for the bags. when I was there last, the particular supermarket closest to where I was staying charged 10 euro cents for a plastic bag and 50 euro cents for a Biodegradeable cloth one. thanks to my work's Expenses allowance I stocked up on those latter ones and took them home with me. Still have some from when I went there last october. Very well put (or should that be stitched) together they are!! :)

Nice Show, but a bit short ;)

Anyway, loved the 365 part with that little ***** (I don't know the english word, sorry) on the garbage-boy's hand... lol

Nice Show.. I had heard of sustainable Dave. Great to get to know more about him. Also, I am 90 percent plastic bag free. I bought a couple of reusable bags and use those when I go to the store. Turns out they can fit more in them and they are stronger.

Technical wise.. love the epic fu graphic wipe between segments.. very posh. :)

man! the other day I was at wal-mart and I noticed hanging on the registers, black reusable tote bags with the slogan "paper or plastic? neither." they were only a dollar, and I was really impressed with wal-mart's effort, so I bought one. would you believe the cashier rang it up, and then bagged it in a plastic bag?!?! I exchanged a meaningfully shocked look with my buddy (who's a master of philosophy) and we both burst out laughing. rude, I know, but she got the point. so then she takes the reusable bag out of the plastic bag and throws the plastic bag away.

(cynicism alert)
give up people! the world is beyond out help!

Nice to see Had-ou-ken featured. My favorite song of theirs is "that boy that girl" :

However when I explored their youtube site at the end of last year I found this...

Supposedly this was done by a member of the group (maxing out the score in the gameboy version of tetris in case none of you can be arsed to watch all that! :P). Respect is indeed true, however Enough respect is earned purely by naming themselves after a street fighter 2 move!! :D

Argh, I'm conflicted about the whole Prince thing. On one hand, C+C should have paid for those compulsory licenses, even if they were giving the album away for free. On the other hand, not all of Prince's legal actions have been honest lately. These extreme actions on both sides (complete disregard for copyright protections and complete obsession over the control of intellectual property) just make it even more difficult to figure this all out in a rational way. Sigh.

It blows my mind that this is happening when its not even his song...

Plus the album was a tribute to him! The total amount they had to pay him was about $40000. Is he short on money, or what?

No, I think he is overcompensating for his ego. Evidently an 81 song tribute album isn't good enough for him because he didn't perform all the songs himself. Lol.

I get the whole artist thing, but he's taking it a bit too far. He's either not caring that he's destroying his public image or he's too isolated from his fans to notice.

watching "an evening with kevin smith" will give you a ton of perspective on prince. I highly recommend it.

though, I suggest we all take a minute, plug in our noise canceling headphones, zone out to purple rain and pretend we're still looking forward to 1999.

When I go out, I'm more often than not at other peoples houses and not really any sort of businesses. Plus the people I hang out with aren't nearly as techy as me so I'd be using it with no one. And I don't really need to play social games like this…
