I'm gay myself, but I don't believe in marriage because it expresses religious reverence, and I'm atheist. Most religions practice homophobic persecution, and I feel that participating in any act unger a "god" is somewhat contradictory to my existence/beliefs.

I dont think being gay is a choice. I dont think that one day people just wake up and say "hey let me have millions of people hate me". I do feel a little uncomfortable about the thought of a gay man hitting on me, it has happened, but i didnt flip out. If your gay and want to be married to the person you love, i think you should have the right to. For all we know gay couples may have a lower divorce rate than non-homosexual couples. All im saying is if your gay, you shouldnt be persecuted, and should have the same EQUAL rights as everyone else.

True, being gay it's not a choice actually now that i think in the etymology of the word. Let's say it this way. If people are gay or straight its just their reality and we should accept it and respect it as it is. They have the right to be respected, but some people discriminating forget that. Totally agree that they are EQUAL people with the same rights! We just need to make all society understand it in order to stop the hating there is.

I don't think it should be illegal the church just sees marriage as something holy and being gay in general is not holy according to most faiths. But I think it is the CHURCH's right to stand against it if they think it is wrong but not the GOVERNMENT's right. So legally this is a hard one because you can't tell church's to do something they think is wrong and you can't stop people from their own pursuit of happiness. But when you get right down to it Gay people aren't hurting anyone by getting married so it won't hurt to let them do what they want to be happy.

Statistically, LGBT lifestyles and marriage are much less of an issue for people under 30 than for those middle-aged or older. So demographically, the electorate is trending gay-friendly more and more so every election cycle. Within a decade, I'd say you start to see the start of major advances in this arena.
