Do you think you could live abroad for the rest of your life?

We all fancy traveling abroad, and sometimes, we dream of living abroad, too.

One or two years of staying abroad for studies, traveling, business, or many other possible reasons that will take you there is good, but I see some people choosing to leave their own countries for good, saying that life is much better over there.

If given the choice and the resources(money, connection, and etc), do you think you could live abroad for the rest of your life?

And do you think some people are born with a stronger "inclination" for going abroad than other people?

I agree and think more people should travel for that very reason. It helps put things into perspective somewhat.

We could really do with more perspective and understanding these days.

I hate Taxes OMFG. I'd live abroad for a while but by "aboard" do you mean continually changing where you are? Like a year here a year there? or "Moving" to somewhere else.

I am going to travel once i finish school and i do plan on traveling alot. But living aboard your whole life would be hard i think. Its always nice to come back and know where all your stuff is or not have to pack it up every few months so you can move again.
People do have an inclination to leave and travel and some don't

I could easily travel for a year or two or more but not my whole life. I would still like to have a place called home and to be honest i would miss deep dish pizza and the rest of chicagos lovely fatty food

I live "abroad" have a new passport and am in all sorts of denial that I'd ever go back to Scotland.

But - not to be a buzzkill - the real question for a lot of people will ultimately be "could you continue to live abroad while aging parents require care..."

I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Ya this is what I was wondering. Living abroad does entitle you to much of a retirement plan.

I have not read every other post because im kind of lazy, so if i make a point that has already been made just ignore and move on.
I would love to live abroad, i have a constant wander lust. It would be awesome if i have the resources offered to me randomly. I do think some people have a greater urge to wander then others. Some people just like the feel of waking up in the same place everyday, to know where everything is and just feel connected to the area they live.
I on the other hand love to wander, to find places i have yet to be but with funds and transportation needs it is easier said than done.
I would try to bring some friends/ a friend/ loved one along because as much as i like to wander, the loneliness of it may get to me. That would be another thing, wandering abroad may get lonely as many would be going from here to there without really meeting people other than the casual movie like meeting that seems forced by fate.
The scary part would be not knowing about cultures and customs/laws of new places, but that can even be the fun of it too. Just be careful and know a bit of where you are. It would be an adventure, and whats adventure without a sense of danger.
But would i leave my apartment behind and travel the world if i had the resources available, hell yea i will.
This world is too big to stick to one place.

Your question soo interesting! Actually because of my work I travel a lot, and I used to ask me this question almost everyday. I am lucky I visited many countries of different and so I was able to tell what's best for me or not. There are so much things to say, so if you want details about different coutries life style and advantages, we can email. But as much as I traveled, I always thought than I felt at home everywhere. Being at home means a lot of things, and of course, you never feel at home like in your own country home..but I know I could live abroad for the rest of my life if i wanted so.

For now I think France is the best country for a lot of cases, and I am not saying this just because it is my country, I never saw as much of social advantages anywhere else.. let's say it's a place where you're free, (no cultural rules like in asia or other countries..,) where you can see all kind of ethnicity and who know how to live with others (unlike the USA mostly where you see spanish with spanish people etc..)
Plus if you have children, studies are very diverse and you don't have to work like a mad to enter a good school or pay tones of money when you have the brain but broke..
Although it is not a perfect system of course, I still think it is one of the best country you can adapt easily in..well i do think so. Now i know many people won't agree, but this is a forum so all your opinions are welcome ;-)

Anyway, good luck for your "research of yourself" and don't think too much, you have to follow your instinct, your desire. Then if you make the wrong decision, you can always turn back.
Don't give up man.

I think if i met a beautiful french woman, and we had a really good relationship filled with adventure and romance and fun, i think if i was allowed to visit my family every couple of months and travel internationally on my private jet....sure..i'd live abroad.. what about you? Would you live in the San Francisco bay ???

I am American by birth and married a wonderful Dominican woman in NYC. We lived in the Dominican Republic for four years and loved it. We also lived in Spain for seven years.

To be honest, there's no place like home.......NYC is home and everywhere else just seemed like a long excursion. I think most New Yorkers from the city get homesick, no matter where they may be.

New York is so nice, they named it twice........
