I think all of these summer blockbusters seem pretty normal. Sequels, Comic book adaptations, etc

well i understand the whole apocalyptic thriller genre has been quite popular ever since 28 days later, but that doesn't make it, "random"

I would love to participate and am fairly confident that I can explain.

However, I'm not sure what's being asked. What is random about recent movies? Examples given are I Am Legend and Cloverfield. I'm not sure what about them, specifically, is random. Are you talking about plot, theme, character, etc.?

"All other movies that come out have a solid base point"
What do you mean by solid base point? Please be specific: name a movie and try to state what that solid base point is. This will help me to figure out what you find random about these recent examples.

Again, working from what's here, Cloverfield is Godzilla from the perspective of those helpless to affect the outcome. I Am Legend is a remake of a remake of an adaptation of a novel (pretty worn ground). Both of these take an old idea and offer a slightly new perspective on it, both keeping it fresh and maintaining a tradition as well as cashing in on those who don't know the context (nothing wrong with that) by marketing it as something new.

Or is it the big sci-fi concepts that's tripping you up? Do you come from a context of more human dramas? What sorts of movies are you in to?

I'm just trying to get a grip on what we're trying to discuss here.
