On March 29, 2008 at 8 p.m., join millions of people around the world in making a statement about climate change by turning off your lights for Earth Hour, an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.
Earth Hour was created by WWF in Sydney, Australia in 2007, and in one year has grown from an event in one city to a global movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe will turn out for Earth Hour. More than 100 cities across North America will participate, including the US flagships–Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix and San Francisco and Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. View cities involved around the world.
We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time)–whether at home or at work, with friends and family or solo, in a big city or a small town.
It's just that your topic says We invite everyone throughout North America and around the world to turn off the lights for an hour starting at 8 p.m. (your own local time). Presumably on the 29th?
I'm pretty sure you won't be arrested by the Earth Hour police for it. I mean, it wasn't using an external source of energy. I mean in our neck of the woods, (riverdale T.O.) there's a house that's completely off the grid (totally solar powered) so they were definately an exception.
I turned all lights and all electrical appliances off, that did not need sustained power. I took a break from whatever I was doing and got a nice nap.
Whether it had any effect or not, it did give me a moment to relax.
I think the whole point of earth hour was not to conserve energy, but for us to step back and take a look at how efficiently we use electricity and get us thinking about how we can use it more efficiently.

This was really disappointing in Toronto. Less than half of the businesses open Saturday night. None of the major corporations got involved, and while you'd see candlelit local restaurants (I ate at one during the hour, and it was romanticalesque), the Kinkos and 7-11's were so brightly lit they overshadowed anything.
Yeah, I took a trip up to the Jones and Danforth area and I counted 7 shops that were open and observing Earth hour, the 7-11 at Donlands and Danforth was SOOO brightly lit compared to the shops around it that I had to squint my eyes just looking at it.

good going with the build man, I dunno if you carved the stuff out beforehand, but this kinda reminds me of when Queen's Brian May built his "red Special"

Heard a bit of chiptune-age in there... did you get the audio from .XM files by any chance?
What I was referring to, was that the way that this "could" move forward, was that people might be able to search for info about any random person through taking a photograph in the street, they don't even have to be famous.
